Lightbulb About Synergy

Synergy is a principle which states that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Synergism exists when the action of 2 or more individuals working together to produce an effect is greater than the combined effect of the same individuals when operating separately.

Synergic relationship creates dynamic energetic atmosphere where individuals interact and productively communicate with each other and in groups. The cooperative efforts of the participants create an enhanced combined effect compared to the sum of their individual effects. This atmosphere is highly conducive to businesses, working environment and academic establishments.

Q. What types of relationships require synergy?
A. Where the success of a relationship can be measured in terms of creativity, productivity, and achievement, synergy is a major motivation to create that aliance. Typical examples exist in business partnerships, sports teams, mentorship and consultant-client relations.

Q. Can you give an example of synergic relationships in the business world?
A. When one business buys another, synergy is often the goal-that the combined enterprise will perform better than the previously separate companies because it is more efficient. The merger of Kraft Foods with Nabisco generated incremental revenues from co-branding and new products while reducing operating costs through the rationalization of excess capacity or elimination of redundant activities.
Many partnerships are established when the partners hope to see greater strength apparent in the new organization than was there in the previous business units.

It is, but it's even more for work relationships. Synergy is good to have but it isn't an element without which a relationship could not be successful, like commitment is.

Red face I'm confused about synergy

In some of the reports I get, I have high ratings with the other person, but no synergy. In others, I have lesser ratings with the other person, but a higher rating on synergy. Could you explain how you determine if the relationship has the capacity to be greater than the sum of it's "parts" since it's obviously not just based on getting high numbers in the other fields? Thanks. Claygal

In some reports you could have a better personal or romantic relationship with a person and in others a better professional relationship, but relationships can be as great as you want them to be. It just means that you will have to work harder to make a personal, romantic or professional relationship work with certain people. I'm not sure I understood your question, but take the example of a "great" relationship that went very wrong: Relationships Analyst Report by Top Synergy
You can make any relationship work if you want to and the opposite.

Dear Alex,
Thanks for sharing your input on what synergy is- I thought that it was intimately related to a person's ability to commit, communicate, be passionate (for love relationships) and be open to each other. I thought it was a commentary on how well the first three RQ's "meshed" due to your astrological qualities. I was encouraged to learn that synergy might be viewed as the good old fashioned work ethic, and how two people discard every hinderance to make the team goal achievable in a professional context. Thanks for taking the time to consider my questions and answer them with such clarity! Cheers, Claygal

Lightbulb

Now, I finally understood the conceptual discrepancy between synergy as a stand alone quality and the way you took it as an indicator of the overall quality of a relationship.

Looking at it through your eyes makes it clear that this mistake might repeat itself and become confusing to other members as well. I wonder how we can make it clearer on the reports
