Deciding on the method to determine which preference to chose as the domineering one in case of a tie has taken us many hours of study and experimentation. This is why I like your question but this is also the very reason that you're going to get a mild headache
We use three different approaches to calculate the dominant preference:
1. Extrovert/Introvert: This is actually an easy one. In case of a tie, we look at the overall outwardly vs. inwardly inclination, i.e. which four preferences are stronger: Extrovert/Sensory/Thinking/Judging or Introvert/iNtuitive/Feeling/Perceiving. The stronger group sets the tone for the dominant preference.
2. Sensory/iNtuitive/Thinking/Feeling: Here we run an array of tests to determine the most natural hierarchy of Dominant, Auxiliary, Tertiary, and Inferior preferences of receiving and processing information. If you like, we can expand on that once we'll set up some library articles about personality-type assessment methodologies.
3. Judging/Perceiving: here we use the pioneering methodology of Carl Jung that is based on eight personality types (vs. today's 16 types). Jung's method determines the Judging or Perceiving approach to the world based on the findings of the other six preferences.
Makes sense?
